The Volunteers of America Classic will be bringing the country’s top female golfers to The Colony from September 30 to October 6.
If you’re traveling to see the pros at Old American, here’s our best insider tips for making the most of your trip.
1. Explore one-of-a-kind restaurants
There are so many great restaurants in The Colony, we suggest exploring all your options. After a long day of watching the nation’s top athletes, you’re bound to work up an appetite. Plan where you want to grab a bite before hitting the green by viewing a list of local restaurants. If you just can’t make a decision, we suggest heading over to the new Grandscape development. There’s multiple unique dining options like Creole-Mexican fusion, Texas mesquite-smoked barbecue, and American fare with a Rock ‘n Roll twist as well as a vibrant nightlife scene. While you’re there, stop by the nation’s largest furniture store, Nebraska Furniture Mart. The “Mart” carries the latest tech, on-trend home decor, unique gifts, and See’s candies, making for the perfect after-dinner shopping trip.
Be sure to pick up a restaurant discount card from Convention & Visitors Bureau staff at the VOA Classic admissions gate. This card features over a dozen free menu items and discount offers.
2. Enjoy the great outdoors
If the course greens aren’t enough for you, enjoy miles of lakeside hiking and biking trails. These environmentally-sensitive trails take you off the beaten path to explore native flora and fauna along a combined 5 mile stretch. There’s even more to explore on Lewisville Lake. Hidden Cove Park & Marina offers boat ramps, watercraft rentals, and guided paddleboard tours.
3. Save time by taking a rideshare
Using a rideshare app like Uber or Lyft will bring you closer to the game. The pick-up and drop-off site is adjacent to the admissions gate at Old American, avoiding traffic and a trip from the parking lot. Make traveling even simpler by choosing to stay in The Colony. The city has 10 hotels all within 15 minutes of Old American Golf Club. If you have yet to book, explore a list of hotel discounts or compare to find the accommodations that fit your needs.
4. See a show or two
With concerts almost every night of the week, The Colony is an unexpected live music destination. Lava Cantina, the restaurant, bar, and entertainment venue offers up nation acts on their main stage. Every experience at Truck Yard is unique with free live music, rotating food truck fare, and a variety of craft brews on 24 taps. Also check out Hard Eight BBQ, Rock & Brews, and The Shacks at Austin Ranch for seasonal live music sets. We are excited to welcome more venues, as The Colony continues to grow.
5. Ask the locals
The Colony Convention and Visitors Bureau is your best resource for local happenings. Keep an eye out for us at the tournament. We will be answering questions and handing out discount cards to local restaurants. See you there!
