Things to Do: Memorial Day Weekend

The unofficial start of the summer is here! Soak up sunny skies and warm weather in The Colony.

The Colony is home to 23 miles of shoreline and hundreds of acres of wildlife, making it the ideal place to relax with a summer state of mind. Check out our comprehensive list of how to spend your long weekend.

Unwind by the lake

Stewart Creek Park offers 23-acres to relax and enjoy the lakeside breeze. The park features two playground areas, a pavilion available for rental, picnic tables, BBQ grills, sand volleyball, swim beach area, restroom, three-lane boat ramp, and plenty of parking. If you prefer to hike, bike, or run the Shoreline Trailhead is located adjacent to the park’s entrance.

Rent a boat and party with friends

Hidden Cove Park and Marina is the perfect spot to set up camp and enjoy the long weekend. You can rent a variety of party boats, compact powerboats, or wave runners at Sam’s Dock. The park’s amenities include boat ramps, sandy beachfront, bank fishing, horseshoe courts, playground area, pavilions, picnic areas, BBQ grills, volleyball, restrooms with showers and a fish cleaning station as well as tent, screened shelter, cabin and RV camping with full hook-ups. While you’re there, make sure to check out Rockin’ S Bar & Grill for the ultimate lakeside dining experience.

Pitch a tent or bring out the RV

Both Stewart Creek Park and Hidden Cove Park and Marina offer tent and RV camping opportunities. If you’re more of a great indoorsman, you can enjoy nature from the inside of a cabin or bunkhouse at Hidden Cove. Cabins can accommodate up to 6 people and offer a cozy kitchenette and living space. Have more than 5 friends or family members? The brand new bunkhouses are the perfect escape. These massive units come fully furnished with a kitchen and living room area, providing a space for up to 16 or 24 people.

Find the catch of the day

Lewisville Lake is home to an array of fish including catfish, bass, and white crappies. If you’re new to fishing the waters, you can hire a guide to help you reel in the best catch. Either way, make sure to check out the Texas Parks and Wildlife website to determine daily bag and length limits during your trip.

Rock out to live music

Explore the hottest artists and hometown favorites any night of the week. Lava Cantina, a Bourbon Street themed concert venue serves up Creole-Mexican fusion fare, hosts some of the nation’s biggest names in country, pop, hip-hop, and R&B.
