How to Celebrate Independence Day in The Colony

After 21 years, The Colony still knows how to celebrate America’s birthday in style at Liberty By The Lake.

Liberty By The Lake is a celebration of America’s Independence, complete with a parade, live music performances, all-around family fun and a striking fireworks finale. This all-day event is hosted at Stewart Creek Park (3700 Sparks Road) on July 4th.

Liberty 5K, 10K & 1 Mile Fun Run

Join the tradition of racing on July 4th. The 33rd Annual Liberty 5K, 10K & 1 Mile Fun Run welcomes both runners and walkers. Those wishing to participate at a relaxed speed are encouraged to participate in the 5K race. Registration is now open. All races begin at Stewart Creek Park.

Liberty By The Lake Independence Day Parade

“Blast Off” at this year’s parade extravaganza. Experience your traditional Fourth of July parade surrounded by locals celebrating America’s journey into space. The parade begins at 10:00 AM from 5101 Nash Drive and proceeds west on Nash to Blair Oaks, then south on Blair Oaks to The Colony Five Star Complex (4100 Blair Oaks Drive).

Multiple artists will be performing this year to keep the party going all night long. Local band TMT aka Troy, Magen & Tim will open the evening followed by Superband – Band of Steel. Enjoy an evening of chart-topping hits from various genres, while you relax with lakeside views.

Family Fun 

The annual Watermelon Eating Contest is back with competitions for almost every age group. See who can eat the most watermelon in 5 minutes without using their hands. The winner of each age group receives bragging rights and first place ribbon. Registration begins at 7:00 PM and is first come-first serve, event starts at 7:30 PM.

Put your taste buds to the test at the Salsa Shootout. Sample local salsas and vote which dip is the finest in the Metroplex. Sample the entries from 5:00 – 6:00 PM, with the awards ceremony at 6:45 PM. If you’re a salsa aficionado, volunteer your palate as a judge in this year’s competition. Email event staff for more information.

Keep your family entertained all day with multiple performances of “Barks 5th Avenue” -filled with dog tricks and dives, as well as an extreme high-flying BMX stunt show and spectacular science show.

Other family-friendly events include exploring the local business expo, dining at the Liberty Food Court, and experiencing the Family Fun Zone.

Firework Finale

No 4th of July celebration is complete without a booming fireworks display. Liberty By The Lake boasts one of the best fireworks shows in the Metroplex. The bold finale consists of colorful displays presented over Lewisville Lake choreographed to patriotic music.
